How long have you been using Picture cards?

I have been using picture cards since my nonverbal son Matthew was in preschool. It has been over ten years now.

I have used the picture cards nearly eleven years now. I don't use them much anymore except for class instruction, and for behavior prompts, scheduling, etc. My twin sons used them successfully for a long time and now are much more verbal and don't need them except for helping them transition, etc. They are now 13 years old.

We've successfully graduated from PECS but still use token boards and some visual schedules/aids.

I have been using Boardmaker for over 20 years. I had one of the earliest versions for my old Apple. I am self taught and keep trying to find new ways to develop communication with older autistic students without any means of communication. My daughter is a speech pathologist in a hospital clinic. I teach a severe /profound class at a middle school . Sherry

I am a newbie at PECS and have started using it just 2 years ago when I started teaching children with ASD. :)

All my life. I did not know other people did.
By this I mean my parents used them for me and my brother 5 years later.
I then used them for the kids not knowing that they are used by people in the ways I read about here.
My parents just thought they were trying to encourage easy understanding.
I did not know any other reason either.
